Fulltext PDFBackground:Allergiccontactdermatitis(ACD)isacommonskinprobleminducedbyexposuretoanallergen to which the skin is susceptible. Although lac-bangles, a type of traditional jewellery composed of lacresin and worn foragesin India,have beenlinked to a smallnumberofACDcases,theydo exist.
Case:We describea 24-year-oldfemalewho,afterwearingbrand-newlacbanglesnon-stop fortwo days, developedACD.The diagnosisofallergiccontactdermatitiscausedbylac-bangleswasmade basedonthe clinical presentation and medical history. The patient was asked to take off the bangles and was given oral antihistaminesand topicalsteroid creamsastreatments.
Conclusion:Lac-bangle allergyistreated usingtopicalsteroids,antihistamines,andremovaloftheoffendingagentinordertoalleviateskinirritation. Individualswithahistoryofskinallergiesorpastsensitivitytolacbanglesshouldavoidwearingthem.
