Abstract

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are uncommon tumours of mesenchymal origin representing about 0.2% of all gastrointestinal tumors. GISTs can occur anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract. The clinical presentation of this uncommon tumours is highly variable and depends on the size, location and presence of mucosal ulceration. The rarity of GISTs along with nonspecific presentation results in delayed diagnosis, thus a high index of suspicion is needed for the diagnosis of GISTs.

Small bowel GIST presenting with prolonged fever is probably not documented in the current literature.

We decided to report this case of a 53year old male patient presented with prolonged fever for nearly six weeks due to necrotic mid ileal GIST managed successfully with minimally invasive surgery.
