Fulltext PDFChronic renal failure (CRF), also called chronic kidney disease (CKD), describes the gradual loss of kidney function. Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension are the two primary causes of Chronic Renal Failure which account two thirds of kidney cases. The Department of Health in 2003 reported that the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among adult Filipinos was 2.6 percent (or 2.6 out of 100 adult Filipinos). Story Theory by Mary Jane Smith and Patricia Lier in 1999 proposes that story is a narrative happening wherein a person connects with self – in- relation through nurse-person intentional dialogue to create ease. Story Theory is composed of three interrelated concepts: [1] intentional dialogue, [2] connecting with self reliance, and [3] creating ease. The study aimed to deepen understanding and knowledge pertaining to occurrence of chronic renal failure, it manifestations and the nurses’ role in rendering competent and compassionate care to the clients suffering from the said disease through examination of available literature and application of such to clinical practice. The study utilized case study qualitative design that analysed a case from a clinical exposure. The study was conducted at Renal Center (Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Unit) of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu City. The researcher utilized “story theory” – story inquiry by interview guide. The locale was primarily chosen by the researcher based on the availability of the respondent needed that qualified for the inclusion criteria made and its accessibility to the researcher.
